Silic8 MPL1 Primer
Mineral plaster primer for high suction backgrounds — vapour open, independently tested
A mineral based heavy duty gritty primer for plasters and renders, to key and control suction.
Silic8 MPL1 primer is a mineral based plaster primer that is designed to control many high suction backgrounds whilst still remaining vapour open. Silic8 MPL1 primer can also be used to consolidate problematic surfaces and substrates. The primer’s coarse gritted surface provides a robust key for a new suitable plaster to bond to. Silic8 MPL1 primer is the only plaster primer on the market to be independently tested for vapour diffusion to reassure you that water vapour is not trapped in the fabric of your building.
With no VOCs, no odour, a water-based formula and certified as vapour permeable, Silic8 MPL1 primer is our natural mineral and water-glass primer and is free from any other co-binders such as solvents, gypsum and cement.
Suitable for most substrate types: masonry backgrounds, magnesium silicate boards, historic or new plasters (lime, cement or gypsum), stone, wood, and wood type boards, terracotta and some ceramic tiles and paints. An in-house testing facility for bond strength is offered if you have specific requirements.

Application Guide
Preparation
Substrates must be clean and dry and free from any loose material prior to application.
Test a small area for suitability with your specific materials before use*
Do not use on contaminated surfaces, extreme environments or in any unusual circumstances. Do not store or use in extremes of temperature (<5C or above 30C).
Protect surrounding surfaces, particularly glass.
Do not store, or use in temperatures <5C or above 30C.
Application
Stir well before use.
Apply with a broad brush using short strokes and ensuring that the grit is evenly spread across the surface (see typical spread pattern left).
The surface to be primed must be sound and dry. Where the surface is powdery or friable, work the primer in to the affected areas with a brush and test for bond strength after 24 hours.
Silic8 vapour open liquid primer penetrating solution (PS1 or PS2) is recommended prior to application on problematic or highly adsorbent surfaces.
Allow to cure for 2-24 hours depending on temperature and applied thickness.
Appropriate vapour open plasters can be applied at any point after 24 hours and MPL1 has fully cured. Ensure that the plaster is appropriate to the task.
